Get an early start on the weekend Thursday afternoon when the Northport Sportsman's Club hosts their annual Youth Clays Event. It begins at 4 p.m. and runs until 8 p.m. and it's a great way to introduce young people to the shhttp://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifooting sports. It's open to young people from ages 9 to 18 who are accompanied by an adult.
Prepare for your weekend meals by buying something tasty at the Farmer's Market. The market is held weekly on Friday mornings at the historic Northport Depot. It runs from 9 am. to 1 p.m.
This Friday, September 2 marks the final Music in the Park concert for 2011. This is the 25th year of Music in the Park. A big thank you to all the concert sponsors and also to Kent Holton who books the bands and handles sound at each event.
We end the season with the Leo Creek an old time rock and roll band, sponsored by Garage Bar and Grill. Leo Creek members have shared the stage with Bob Seger, Kid Rock and more. Get take out or pack a picnic and head to Marina Park at 7 p.m. and enjoy. As always, the concerts are free but free will offerings to help cover expenses are appreciated.
Saturday at 9 a.m. the annual Alice Busby Walk - Miles for Mammograms kicks off in downtown Northport. Monies raised in this walk, which honors Alice Busby who died in 1994 at age 43 of breast cancer, go to pay for mammograms for women who otherwise could not afford them. The walk is sponsored by the Zonta Club of Leelanau County.
